Background History Of Shalom Gates Community Based Organization
Shalom Gate was started in 1998 by Margaret Nyokabi Muchiri. Margaret started by helping and taking custody 2 children from a neighbour family that had been bereived. Later in 2000 she took 4 orphans from a family friend summing up to 6 children. She later took in a child who had completed his class 8 but due to lack of fees couldn’t join secondary school. She took the boy to a catholic priest who was running a Childen’s Home in Nakuru. In a neighbourhood where margaret lived there was an old lady who was raising her grand children but couldn’t take them to school. She took the children to Fr.Gichia who was running achildren’s home in Nakuru.
group of 15 old women
In 2008 Margaret started a group of 15 old women who were raising children that were orphaned. The number of chilren increased to 29. Due lack of facilities Margaret took the children to St. Gorent Children’s Home under Catholic Priest Fr. Gichia and LOVE FOR ALL CHILDREN’S HOME in Nakuru under Pastor Pamela.
Following the closure of LOVE FOR ALL CHILDREN’S HOME in 2015 Margaret approached one well-wisher who gave her small piece of land at Hell’s Gate to put a temporary structure for the orphans and vulnerable .With the of the church Gilgal Ministry she was able to set up a place for the childrens.
In August 2017 SHALOM GATES CHILDREN’S HOME was started officially. Where started receiving children from diffrernt parts of Naivasha. With the help of family and friends the founder madam Margaret was able to carter for children’s need.
Further, in 2019 the founder registered Shalom Gates Children’s Home as Community Based Organisation(CBO).Since then Shalom Gates Children’s Home has grown to an approximate of 52 children, both in primary and secondary schools and Volunteer Staff.
